A Clinicostatistical Study of Pure Tone Audiometry of Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media


Abstract
Clinicostatistical analysis for chronic suppurative otitis media in 261 cases (355 ears), who had been taken audiometry at Dept. of Otolaryngiology, SNUH, during past one year was performed.
The obtained results were as follows:
1. Hearing loss was increased with the increase in duration of the disease, but there was no significant difference in air-bone gap.
2. Hearing loss according to the tympanic membrane perforation were 45.77 dB. in cases of small perforation 51.01 dB in cases of large perforation and 55. 47 dB in cases of total defect. Consequently,, hearing loss showed increasing trend with the size of perforation.
3. Degree of hearing loss showed most frequent¢¥ in moderate hearing loss (105. cases, 29.6%) and then in mild hearing loss (86 cases, 24.2%). In cases of normal hearing and mild hearing loss, its percentage was decreased with the decreased duration of the disease and with the size of tympanic membrane perforation and in cases of severe hearing loss and total deaf its percentage was increased.
4. Audiogram pattern showed most frequent in horizontal form (166 cases, 46. 7%) and then in ascending form (123 cases, 34.7%).
